New Thermowood Cladding
External cladding is an increasingly popular aesthetic feature for commercial premises and housing projects and the leading candidate traditionally has been Western Red Cedar.
Yet shortages in supply and rising prices in this species has led to growing interest in other hardwoods such as Red Louro and Iroko and even green Oak, all of which Timbmet Silverman has supplied recently to major projects.
Now, the company is introducing another excellent option with Thermowood, a softwood product that is specially heat treated to give it many of the properties of hardwood.
By heat treating the PEFC certified softwood, Thermowood ensures that there is excellent dimensional stability, no need to paint or treat the product for exterior applications, and no risk of wood resins leaking from knot holes, overcoming all the conventional weaknesses of softwood in exterior applications. No chemicals are used in the treatment process further reducing the environmental impact.
